what a spring!

It's the last week of May and the weather is overcast and windy and then sunny with beautiful bounding clouds.

My 30th birthday was last week, I've been expecting it for so long, and it was such a perfectly uneventful kind of birthday. Very low key. Z. is not only cleaning, painting and rebuilding my bicycle, but he bought me a lovely olive green cycling bag and on a full morning of yard and estate sales he bought me some vintage wool skirts (1.00 each) and some lovely wool cardigans ( I can never have enough) I feel completely spoiled. I also got a few sweet cards, a book of cycling trails, a frozen yogurt gift certificate ( mandatory), some lovely colored masking tape, these straws and this most amazing book

The Tiny Voyagers show is going up in the Ranch house at the River Center. 5 wood burned boats and 5 small paper mache boats for installation with branches. It's a small show, but it was hard hard work. We hang pieces tomorrow and the reception is June 24th ( mark your calendars) . Pictures will be up soon, I promise.

Heading to Southern California this weekend. I promise to take too many pictures. Baby Mallards were born this month at work, they were the most fluffly darling things. Baby kildeer are running around too, and the baby great horned owls are long fledged gone.

Pyrography

I've been getting bigger ideas for this woodburning technique I'm learning. But this morning I couldn't help doing some research on other pyrography artists.
Bereznitsky has some awesome modern peices that look like they come from old movie scenes.

Lance RusswurmOld timey style, but his technique is amazing!!

Julie Bender does a lot of representational animal stuff, I absolutely adore her Avian series. I want to own one of these.

Interesting collection of pieces at

I love this idea so much I'm going to write my own for today

Dear Whole Foods,
Thank you for being open when Boulangerie was closed. You have great breakfast nibbles and offer nice booths to people watch and draw. We had a wonderful morning.
See you soon,
Laura

antics

Half the time I feel like much that I do is just antics. Goofy stuff that no one ever sees, well, maybe just the folks who get lucky.I'm very very happy that Z. not only joins me, but in most cases is the instigator.

Z is serious, I'm just a goof.
