outdoor project

Originally this idea came from walking through this grove of eucalyptus on a regular basis. I imagined string and bits of found objects.  Wasn't sure how big it would be or what exactly it would look like. The plan was to complete it in a day and leave it up if possible for 36 hours.

I arrived at 9am, everything was quiet. We've had lots of rain this week so everything was nice and green and fresh.
The wind did some incredible things.
My favorite part was incorporating all the rocks that had rolled down the hill. Thanks erosion.

A few friends came by to assist and observe. After 6 hours the park ranger came by and asked what we thought we were doing and could we explain what we were doing out here. I told her art project, I should have said research just to mess with her head more. She said that I had to take everything down, and I asked if I could leave it up for 36 hours. She was pissed. no, I could not because tying things to trees was not allowed and if I left it would become littering and she would give me a ticket for littering and it couldn't be left up at night because it was a hazard to someone walking through.

nevermind the fact that this entire area is full of garbage, not to mention a  designated public toilet in the bushes for the bums that pass through or sleep here at night, which has to be a total health violation of some sort.

At one point I asked her how much a littering ticket would cost and she went into this whole explanation that if she gave me the ticket it didn't give me the right to leave everything up and it had to come down. I pointed out that I just asked how much? she said $1,000. She said we had to take everything down right away. I asked if I could take pictures before tearing it down, she said fine I'll give you 15 minutes and then left. If I had known that she had left completely from the area I would have left it all there for her to clean up, but I took everything down and packed up.

So I'm kind of regretting not saying, well If I don't leave but I take it down when I'm done you can't give me a ticket because I'm not littering. I'm sure she would have found a reason. I almost wanted to argue that if I had a volleyball net set up would she have told me the same thing?

no big deal. It gives me more restrictions to work with. Next week I will collect all the garbage in this area, arrange it so it lines the curb of the entire area, take some pictures then bag it up and leave it for the rangers to clean up. what assholes.
